In 1959, psychiatrist Dr. Alan Stone treats a paranoid schizophrenic patient who believes he is Jesus Christ. Unwilling to use electroshock therapy, the doctor instead begins a risky, unprecedented experiment transferring his patient to live with two other paranoid schizophrenics, who coincidentally also believe they are Jesus.
