In September 1939, Władysław Szpilman, a Polish-Jewish pianist, struggles to stay alive as he hides among the ruins of Warsaw and scavenges for food and shelter. However, with the help of survivors, Szpilman eventually reclaims his artistic gifts in defiance of the Nazis.
