In the remote taiga, hiding from the world, lives a family: Polina, Prokhor and their twenty-two-year-old granddaughter Efrosinya. Once upon a time, the escort Prokhor, who was in love, helped the political prisoner Polina escape. They took refuge in the taiga in an abandoned hunter's house, and since then they have kept in touch with the outside world only through the local huntsman. Meanwhile, a group of geologists arrives in the taiga on behalf of businessman Martynov - they must find a secret gold deposit, which, as the locals believe, has a terrible curse. Among the geologists are Maxim and Tatyana, who is in love with him. But one night, Maxim sees Efrosinya bathing in a waterfall. The appearance of a girl in such a remote place awakens curiosity in him - he rushes in search of a beautiful stranger. In the forest, a bear attacks Maxim, but Prokhor saves him from inevitable death and brings him to his house.
