Fairy tales work best for the little ones on children's television, according to German television broadcasters in the mid-1950s. But the real stars of the show were the dolls, especially the cheeky little goblin "Pittiplatsch", who liked to play tricks, but also "Schnatterinchen", who came across as rather well-behaved and precocious.
