In Styria (Austria), star attorney Mark Degen drops his lucrative clients (including mobsters) after his wife's fatal car crash to become the last hope of rustic commoners. After serving time for contempt of court, he attends his daughter Riccarda's first case as junior prosecutor under her lover, Wolf Bernheimer, only to hear her lose due to the crown witness, nurse Evelyn Zenker, recanting the case against fraudulent diagnosis-profiteering Dr. Herbert Braun as revenge for a lost promotion, and because someone removed the evidence from her briefcase.
