After befriending a patient and then losing her to cancer, Dr. Sydney Ludwick decides to take some long-needed time off to reevaluate her life. Persuaded by a friend to attend her 20th high school reunion, Syd halfheartedly returns to her small hometown where, after years of estrangement, she finally confronts her mother about the past and faces the love she left behind.
