GDR, 1988. People's Police officer Martin Franzen is on duty when a woman's body is pulled out of the Baltic Sea. The victim, Johanna Schön, has died from gunshots. Everything points to a failed escape from the Republic. But during the investigation Martin comes across inconsistencies. Then an important witness dies. Allegedly, he committed suicide. The Stasi takes over the case. But Martin continues to investigate in secret.
