Alfred Hugenberg, a secret financial adviser, royalist and radical nationalist, became a member of the Reichstag in the Weimar Republic in 1920. His influence on public opinion increased with the help of his growing press and film company. In 1928, Hugenberg succeeded in removing Count Westarp as chairman of the DNVP and being elected leader of the party.
