Young teenager Agnes, her widowed father, and their caretaker Karen live in a farmhouse in Brittany, France. Agnes is between childhood and growing into a young adult. She resists her father's wish for her to grow up and act like an adult. One day while walking home from church they witness a prison bus crash. The convicts attempt to flee and are being shot by the prison guards. One knocks down a guard and injures him before escaping past the family.
