Lorella must marry Dr. Matteini, but when she goes to Naples to meet him, she meets Michele, who sings in restaurants and the fateful spark breaks out; and, even if Michele is poor, Lorella decides to marry him against the wishes of his mother. Michele is successful as a singer, but the mother remains granite in her refusal to see or communicate with Lorella - until the birth of a granddaughter who is given her name.
