Soukup and nurse Daniel, or a captain and a simple soldier in a Red Army unit approaching the aid of fighting Prague, or an old, war-torn German major, realizing the futility of war only when looking at a fanatical, cynical lieutenant for whom Nazi ideology makes sense of life.
