Grand Duke Konstanty marries countess Joanna Grudzińska. Joanna, however, still loves Major Łukasiński, and consented to marriage out of a sense of patriotic duty. Łukasiński is arrested. The November Uprising breaks out. The conspirators take the Belweder Palace. Joanna hides Konstanty from them.
