Antoine Charpentier is chief librarian in a town in the greater Paris suburbs. A man always ready to help his fellow citizens, he is very much involved in local associations - Chloé and Colin Marot are two "false" twins, aged six, who never do anything without one another. And for good reason - Chloe is partially deaf but, with her brother's help, has managed to conceal her infirmity from her own family. When Antoine meets Chloe, he quickly discovers her secret. He immediately sets out to help Chloe, as well as her mother to accept her handicap.
