Rio de Janeiro, 1958. Flávia Cristina (Letícia Spiller) is a girl who supports her only brother Bruno (Caio Blat), but does not realize that he is a marginal. Thinking she killed a a loan shark when defending her brother, she flees to the South, without realizing that her suitcase carries stolen dollars. On the trip, she meets Flávia Regina (Christine Fernandes), a girl physically similar to her who is going to work as a governess at Vivenda do Sombrio, in Esplendor. An accident with the bus puts Regina in a coma in the hospital, while Flávia Cristina is mistaken for her and taken to her employers' house. At Vivenda do Sombrio, little Bill (Thiago de Los Reyes) sees his mother's spirit. His father Frederico Berger (Floriano Peixoto), who never recovered from the loss of his wife, Elisa (Ângela Figueiredo), became a taciturn man, who spreads his sadness to everyone in the family. Flávia assumes the identity of her friend hoping to resolve the situation when she comes out of the coma.
