Alf Butler (Roy Kinnear) is a greengrocer who also has an 'interest' in a hairdressing salon. He has constant problems with the women who work for him. Regular characters include Penelope Marshall (Josephine Tewson), Beryl Armitage (Avril Angers) and Colonel Marshall (Robert Dorning).
