In the series, the reality of a less favored portion of the Brazilian population was portrayed through the eyes of a doctor from a small town, Dr. Rodrigo Junqueira (Francisco Cuoco). The gynecologist becomes disillusioned with his profession and, due to circumstances, is led to practice medicine in a small hospital in Andorinhas, a rural town in the interior of the country.
