A child is killed and the shocked Commissioner Matthäi makes a very precise promise to the child's parents: he will avenge them at any cost, find the culprit and bring him to justice. The policeman, however, ignores that, however much he may rack his brains on the case, his investigation will still be in vain: fate is always a move ahead of him.
