While the extinction of a species is a classic phenomenon, what is called mass extinction is much less so. More than 75% of the planet's species must disappear in a short period of time. Scientists are analyzing geological evidence to try to determine the causes of these phenomena. The devastation inflicted on the Earth by humans could be at the origin of a new mass extinction.
