The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the highest plateau on earth, with its major part located in China. With an average elevation of over 4,000 meters, the plateau is the headwaters of most streams in Asia. The average annual teamperature in the central region of the plateau is below zero degree Celsius. As the highest point on the earth, it is called the "Roof of the World". Compared with the South and North Pole, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is a place for diverse human activities, and home to generations of several ethnic groups.
