"New Alba" is the name of the police operation that in July 2013 vanquished the Ostia mafia, one of the largest municipalities in the metropolitan area of Rome and the largest territorial reality ever dissolved by the mafia in Italy. In one day, 51 people belonging to clans linked to the Sicilian mafia and the 'Ndrangheta are arrested and crimes ranging from drug trafficking to murder, extortion and illegal management of bathing establishments are being charged. The operation is directed by the chief prosecutor of Rome Giuseppe Pignatone and by the deputy Michele Prestipino. In 2015, the sentence will document the existence of the mafia in Rome, then confirmed by the Supreme Court which will impose sentences for 200 years on the accused.
