Guillermo del Toro was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He made his film debut working in production and then special effects. Unlike his friends Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, with whom he formed a trio nicknamed the "Three Amigos", he directed his first feature film in the United States. He then goes on to film, alternating between blockbusters like "Blade II" or the "Hellboy" saga, and more personal films, like "The Devil's Backbone" or "Pan's Labyrinth", selected at the Festival of Cannes in 2006.
