Ian Holm Cuthbert began his career on the British stage as a leading member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and went on to became a successful and prolific performer on television and in films. He is known for BBC's mini-series The Wars of the Roses, The Man from Haven, Napoleon and Love, Game Set and Match, and films including Alien (1979), Chariots of Fire (1981), Dreamchild (1985), Hamlet (1990), The Madness of King George (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), The Fifth Element (1997), The Emperor's New Clothes (2001), and The Lord of the Rings franchise
